Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered about the different phases of the moon? Well, now you can engage your little ones in a fun and educational activity with our space crafts for kids! We have even included a moon phases worksheet to make it even more interesting.
Full Moon
The full moon always looks so magical and mysterious up in the night sky. During a full moon phase, the moon is fully illuminated and appears as a circle. This is caused by the sun’s rays reflecting off the moon’s surface and back to Earth.
New Moon
The new moon phase is when the moon is not illuminated at all. During this phase, the moon is located between the sun and the Earth, and the side of the moon that faces the Earth is not lit up by sunlight.
First Quarter Moon
The first quarter moon is when half of the moon is illuminated. During this phase, the moon is located perpendicular to the Earth and the sun. This creates a perfect angle for half of the moon’s surface to be lit up by the sun’s rays.
Third Quarter Moon
The third quarter moon is also when half of the moon is illuminated, but this time, it’s the opposite side of the moon compared to the first quarter moon. During this phase, the moon is located in the opposite direction as the first quarter moon.
Waxing Crescent Moon
The waxing crescent moon is a phase after the new moon, where only a small sliver of the moon is visible. This phase is a gradual increase of the moon’s illumination as the moon moves closer to a full moon phase.
Waxing Gibbous Moon
The waxing gibbous moon is another phase of the moon leading up to the full moon phase. During this phase, more than half of the moon is illuminated, but it is not yet a full moon.
Waning Crescent Moon
Waning crescent moon is another gradual decrease in illumination after the full moon phase. During this phase, only a small sliver of the moon is visible, just like the waxing crescent moon.
Waning Gibbous Moon
Waning gibbous moon is also a phase after the full moon, where more than half of the moon is still illuminated but decreasing until it reaches the third quarter moon.
Now that you know about the different phases of the moon, it’s time to get creative and make some space crafts with your little ones. Use our moon phases worksheet to help them understand the moon phases and make learning fun and engaging! Happy crafting!
