Today, we wanted to share with you an adorable project that you can do with your little ones. Have you ever heard of paper ducks? Well, if not, you’re in for a treat because this tutorial will show you how to make your own cute and colorful paper ducks that your kids will surely love!
Getting Started: What You’ll Need
Before we begin, let’s gather all the materials we’ll need for this project:
- Colored printer paper or origami paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Markers or colored pencils
Step-by-Step Instructions
Now that we have everything we need, let’s start making our paper ducks!
Step 1: Fold and Cut
Take a piece of colored printer paper or origami paper and fold it diagonally so that it forms a triangle. Make sure the edges are aligned and crease it well. Then, cut off the excess paper at the bottom so that it becomes a square.
Step 2: Fold and Cut Again
Next, fold the square in half by bringing the bottom corner up to meet the top corner. Crease it well and then unfold it. Then, fold the square in half again by bringing the left corner to meet the right corner. Crease it well and unfold it again. We should now have four creases in the square – two diagonal and two straight.
Step 3: Fold and Cut Again (Again!)
Turn the square over so that the colored side is facing down. Then, take the bottom corner and fold it up to meet the center crease. Crease it well and repeat this step for the top corner. Then, fold the paper in half by bringing the left corner to meet the right corner. Crease it well and unfold.
Next, take the right corner and fold it up to meet the center crease. Crease it well and repeat for the left corner. Fold the paper in half again by bringing the bottom corner to meet the top corner. Crease it well and unfold.
Finally, take the top corner and fold it down to meet the center crease. Crease it well and repeat for the bottom corner. Fold the paper in half once again by bringing the left corner to meet the right corner. Crease it well and unfold.
Step 4: Form the Head and Tail
Now, we will form the head and tail of our paper duck. To do this, push the two sides of the paper inwards along the diagonal creases we made earlier. Crease the paper well and then flatten it out.
Flip the paper over so that the colored side is facing up. Then, take the top edge and fold it down to meet the bottom edge. Crease it well and then unfold it. Finally, take the bottom edge and fold it up to meet the top edge. This will create a small triangle at the bottom of the paper duck’s body.
Step 5: Fold the Wings
Now, we will form the wings of our paper duck. To do this, lift up the left and right flaps of the paper duck’s body. The creases we made in step 4 will help the paper fold the way we want it to. Fold the left flap down along the crease so that it forms a wing. Crease it well and repeat for the right flap.
Step 6: Decorate
Finally, it’s time to decorate our paper ducks! You can use markers or colored pencils to draw eyes, a beak, and feathers on your paper duck. Feel free to get as creative as you’d like!
