Now that’s what I call some good design right there! This logo definitely shows off the Buckeyes’ pride and spirit. It’s got a classic look with that block lettering and bold red color. And I love how the “O” and “S” are intertwined - it really makes the logo feel cohesive.
Overall, I think this is a solid addition to the Buckeyes’ branding. It’s always great to see a team’s logo evolve and change over time, and this alternate logo is definitely a step in the right direction.
The History of the Buckeyes Logo
Speaking of logo evolution, let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and look at how the Buckeyes’ logos have changed over the years.
Back in 1968, the Buckeyes logo looked like this - a simple block “O” with the word “Ohio” written in script underneath. It’s clean and classic, but definitely not as exciting as some of the more recent designs.
In 1977, the logo got a bit of an update - the “Ohio” script was now written in block letters, and there was an added Buckeye leaf in the center. Still not too different from the previous logo, but the added leaf definitely adds a bit of dimension.
Fast forward to 1990, and we’ve got a completely new look for the Buckeyes logo. The block “O” is still there, but now it’s surrounded by a swooping red “Buckeye leaf” design. The word “Ohio” is now written in a bold font that matches the “Buckeye leaf” design. This is definitely a departure from the previous logos, but I think it works well.
In 2006, the Buckeyes logo underwent another update - the “Buckeye leaf” design was now more prominent, and the block “O” was set inside a larger circle. The word “Ohio” was also written in a more modern, sans-serif font. While I personally prefer the previous logo, I can see why the Buckeyes wanted to keep things fresh and updated.
