It’s finally here. The first day of kindergarten.
Dear Kindergarten Mama
It’s okay to feel a little nervous. Even if you’ve been dreaming of this day for months, it’s still a big change. Your baby is growing up and heading off to school - for the first time, no less.
Don’t worry, though. Your child is going to do great. They’ve been practicing their ABCs and counting to ten all summer. They’re excited to meet their new teacher and make new friends.
Getting Ready
The night before the big day, make sure everything is ready. Double-check the backpack to make sure all the necessary supplies are packed. Have your child pick out their first-day outfit (and make sure it’s clean!).
Get plenty of rest. It’s important for both you and your child to have a good night’s sleep before the first day. If your child is nervous, read a bedtime story or talk about what they’re excited about for the next day.
Starting the Day
On the morning of the first day, wake up a little early to make sure you have plenty of time to get ready. Have a nutritious breakfast and take a few deep breaths. You’ve got this.
When you arrive at school, help your child find their classroom. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Teachers and staff are there to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Saying Goodbye
When it comes time to say goodbye, don’t linger too long. Give your child a hug and a kiss, and remind them you’ll be back to pick them up later. It can be tough to let go, but remember - this is an exciting day for your child.
Once your child is settled in the classroom, take some time for yourself. Do something that makes you feel calm and centered, whether it’s a workout, a hot cup of coffee, or some meditation. It’s okay to feel emotional, but don’t forget to take care of yourself.
After School
When you pick your child up from school, they’ll likely have a lot to tell you. Make sure to give them your undivided attention and ask plenty of questions. What did they do? Who did they play with? Did they enjoy their lunch?
Remember that it’s okay if the first day is a little rocky. It’s a big adjustment for everyone. Be patient and supportive, and your child will thrive.
The First Day of Kindergarten
Congratulations, mama. You made it through the first day of kindergarten. Take a deep breath and give yourself a pat on the back.
The journey is just beginning, but your child is in good hands. They’re going to learn and grow so much this year, and you get to be a part of it all.
Enjoy the ride, and don’t forget to take plenty of pictures!
