5 Senses Printable

Ah, the five senses. So important to our daily lives, and yet we often take them for granted. Let’s explore some activities that you can do with your children to help them better understand and appreciate their senses!

Sight

Child looking at pictureOur eyesight is such an important sense. Without it, we would miss out on so much of the beauty around us. One fun activity to do with your children is to take them on a nature walk and have them point out all of the different things they see. You can also play I Spy games at home or in the car to help develop their observation skills.

Hearing

Child listening with headphonesOur hearing is another important sense that we use all the time. One fun activity to do with your children is to play a game of Simon Says, but instead of giving commands verbally, you make different noises that they have to mimic. You can also have listening scavenger hunts where you make different sounds around the house or outside and have them try to identify where the sound is coming from.

Taste

Child tasting foodOur taste buds help us enjoy all kinds of delicious food. One fun activity to do with your children is to have a blind taste test with different foods. Blindfold them and have them taste different items like fruits, vegetables, and condiments to see if they can guess what they are. You can also have them help you in the kitchen with cooking and baking, and let them taste different ingredients along the way.

Touch

Child touching different texturesOur sense of touch helps us feel the world around us. One fun activity to do with your children is to make a sensory table filled with different textures like play-doh, sand, and water beads. You can also have them play games where they have to identify different objects by touch only.

Smell

Child smelling flowersOur sense of smell helps us enjoy different aromas, both good and bad. One fun activity to do with your children is to go on a smell scavenger hunt around the house or outside. You can also have them help you make different scented play-doh or have them smell different herbs and spices in the kitchen.

By exploring these different activities, your children will have a greater appreciation for their senses and the world around them. It’s never too early to start teaching them about their bodies and how they work!
